EL CENTRO, Calif. – Two men were arrested after police found a dog that had been shot in the leg.
Officers say Saul Montoya, 26, is suspected of shooting a dog in the leg at an apartment complex near Brighton Avenue and Fifth Street.
Police were called out when the dog owner heard a loud bang and thought someone had shot their dog with a pellet gun.
When officers showed up at the scene Friday morning they arrested Pablo Dominguez, 22, who was carrying a bullet casing and a loaded handgun. Detectives kept investigating and later found Montoya inside the apartment complex where the dog was shot.
Montoya was charged with animal cruelty, felon in possession of a firearm and discharge of a firearm in public place. Dominguez was charged with possession of a loaded firearm in a public place and possession of a concealed firearm.
Officer say the dog was treated for its injuries at a local veterinarian and was returned to its owner the same day.
