PHOENIX, Ariz. – Two police officers were injured Saturday when a trespassing suspect they were approaching at an Arizona Walmart pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said.
Mitchell Oakley, 24, was shot and killed after he opened fire on officers as they walked into the Phoenix-area retailer, police said.
The Chandler police officers, who have not been identified, were called to the suburb’s Walmart to remove a trespasser, officials said. Oakley approached them in the front of the store, near the greeters’ area, and started shooting as soon as they arrived, police said.
One officer was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon, and the other was said to be in the intensive care unit, Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan said in a tweet.
