CALEXICO, Calif. – A woman was arrested on smuggling charges after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found more than half a million dollars-worth of drugs in the car she was driving.
The 23-year-old drove up the Calexico east port of entry where she was sent to secondary inspection. Officers say they noticed anomalies in the doors and back seats of the car with their imaging system, that’s when the K-9 officer alerted the car.
Officers say they found 13 packages of cocaine weighing about 35 pounds and one package of heroin weighing almost three pounds.
The woman, a Riverside resident, was turned over to the Homeland Security Investigation and was booked into Imperial County Jail.
