Yuma Bass Club sweeps high school bass fishing championships

YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Bass Club teams swept the competition in the Arizona State High School Bass Fishing Championships. The event took place in Yuma Saturday.

The Yuma Bass Club entered eight teams into the competition, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the state.

There were 17 teams from around the state fishing in the tournament. The first place team Jon Parrish and Brett Edington, both from Gila Ridge High School, with a bag 17+ pounds coached by Dave Parrish won $1000 college scholarship and a spot in the regional tournament at Clear Lake, California to represent Arizona.

Second place was taken by the team of Brian Velasquez of Kofa High School and Jaysen Brooks of Cibola High School and coached by Chris Walker. This team won college scholarships worth $500. Third place was taken by the team of Aaron Cadena and Ben Jackson both of Gila Ridge High School and coached by Richard Gill. Both members of this team won custom made Taipan fishing rods to continue working on their skills.

This is the first Arizona Championship in which all teams caught and weighed in fish.
