Yuma County Public Health Services released an update yesterday about the community’s health. Statistics show that only 14% of Yuma residents smoke. Health Services say the tax on tobacco, proposition 201, which banned smoking in public areas could be why. Leadership and prevention classes were also contributed to cutting down on smoking in Yuma and have also been implemented in schools. Health officials say playing an active role in the community has also helped citizens stop smoking. Yuma was ranked number three in overall health behind Santa Cruz and Maricopa counties.
