Yuma Firefighters helping stop Rough Fire near Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.-

Firefighters from the Yuma Fire Department were deployed to California to battle the Walker fire. They are now working to contain the Rough Fire near Fresno California.

There are currently four Yuma Firefighters deployed in California. They were sent along with 2,000 others to help stop the spread of the Rough Fire that’s burned more than 55,000 acres. The strike team’s mission is to help protect homes and buildings near the wildfire. The Rough Fire has been burning for almost four weeks and tonight fire officials say it is 25 percent contained.

If it takes longer than two weeks to get control of the fire, the current fire fighters will return home and City of Yuma Fire Department will send other Firefighters to help.

The Walker fire that the Firefighters were working on before is just under 4,000 acres in size and is 95% contained.
