YUMA, Ariz. -Each Spring for the past 20 years, volunteers at Yuma Regional Medical Center select scholarship recipients throughout Yuma County.
Marylin Griffiths is one of those volunteers this year who will choose the six students to win $2,000 each. The money collected through YRMC gift shop sales will help them pursue an education in the medical field.
“Some of the students really have goals and nothing will stand in their way. And I am happy to give them a push and say, go with it,” said Griffiths.
You must currently be enrolled or accepted into any healthcare career program within Arizona Western College or Northern Arizona University to apply, and hold at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Last year, Emergency Department Technician Rafael Villegas was one of the winners of the scholarship. He says it’s helped pay for the costly textbooks required for his nursing courses.
“I’ve been really grateful for this scholarship and YRMC for giving me this opportunity receiving this scholarship, which might seem a small amount, but it helps me a lot to further my career. Nursing, paying for books and tuition,” said Villegas.
