YUMA, Ariz. – The Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to be safe this Memorial Day weekend.
As part of their ongoing traffic safety campaign, deputies will be heavily patrolling, looking for alcohol and drug-impaired drivers. Not only will officers increase patrol through Yuma County, they will also target areas where they often find DUI offences.
The funding for the campaign comes from Gov. Doug Ducey’s office in an effort to lower DUI numbers.
In 2014, DUI related accidents in the Grand Canyon State led to 238 deaths.
Sheriff’s officials say it’s important to designate a sober driver when drinking.
