Yuma standoff ends with son arrest

YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department arrested a man tied to an aggravated assault case after a standoff that lasted about five hours. YPD said Thursday at 10:58 a.m. officers responded to a call in the 400 Block of W. 16th St.

The victim reported that her son was following her as she was driving. Officers said the son then stopped following her and returned to his mother’s home, located in the 1900 Block of 17th Place.  The suspect locked himself in the home and when officers attempted to make contact with him, he refused to come out of the residence.

The Yuma Police Department Special Enforcement Team (S.E.T.) was then called out and began negotiations with the suspect to exit the home. At 4:22 p.m., the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody and was taken to the Yuma Police Department.
