Yuma students receive thousands of dollars in scholarships to U of A

YUMA, Ariz. – On Tuesday the University of Arizona Alumni Association Yuma Chapter held their annual banquet at the Yuma Civic Center. At the banquet they gave away a total of $55,500 in scholarships to local students to attend U of A. They gave scholarships to 36 students at the banquet, most were for a few thousand dollars. Students at the banquet expressed their appreciation for receiving the scholarships.

The Yuma Chapter of the U of A Alumni Association has been giving away scholarships since 1991, since then they have given awards to about 600 students. After Tuesdays banquet the total amount given was approximately $983,000, they have a goal of reaching one million dollars. If they reach that amount they will be the first non-profit organization in Yuma County to give away that much money to local students.
